Michita - ソラニシラレヌ feat.Meiso
I love music in other languages.
Also, I just realised it sounds like he says “that’s what she said” at about 3:11.
Common - “The 6th Sense”
I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want millions
More than money saved, I wanna save children
Dealing with alcoholism and afrocentricity
A complex man drawn off of simplicity
One more, because I’ve really gotten into a Beirut mood and want to share it with all of you! Last one though, I promise. This is another of my favourite Beirut songs, and let me note that I much prefer this version (from the Lon Gisland EP) over the original album version from Gulag Orkestar (although that version isn’t *bad* by any means). The solo accordion playing the melody just gives me goosebumps and has a much more gallant and legendary sound to it than the bouncy and light-hearted mood of the original.
I’d also like to mention that I managed to teach myself how to play this melody, by ear (no sheet music), on the piano a couple years ago. I’ll be darned if I can remember it now… I should have written it down then. But eh, if I could figure it out once, I’m sure I can figure it out again.
”Scenic World”
When I feel alive
I try to imagine a careless life
A scenic world where the sunsets are all
breathtaking…
…but enough of the new stuff, now its time for one of my old favourite Beirut songs. Nothing I’ve heard on the new album comes close to this.
Please stop what you are doing and listen to this song now.
“Napoleon on the Bellerophon”
“A Candle’s Fire” by Beirut
I mentioned that I hadn’t met many dubstep fans here, but I did meet a few people who listen to Beirut, which pretty much makes up for it. I don’t think I’ve met anyone back home who’s heard of, let alone listens to, Beirut.
(I also didn’t know they had a new album… I haven’t actually listened to them myself in quite some time)
“Something’s Wrong” by Pretty Lights
Great low-key song. I love how he plays with the time signatures at 2:50 and 5:50.
