Old notebooks...
Cleaning my room I found a bunch of old notebooks, aging anywhere from high school to second grade. The second grade notebooks are a whole different story, but in one of my high school notebooks I found this scribbled on a page: A programmer had started to cuss because falling asleep was a fuss. As he lay there in bed,  looping ‘round in his head, was “while (!asleep) sheep++”

How'd you spend your Christmas?
Since there’s still not a snowflake in sight, my family and I took a day trip to a nearby state park and went hiking for a while before grilling hamburgers over a campfire. Also took a bunch of pictures (which eventually will appear over on my other blog) I can’t really think of anything else I would have rather done today.

Driving in the Car with Parents
Mom: "I'm getting so sick of Christmas music on every station. Do you have your mp3 player on you?"
Me: "Yes, but I'm listening to it right now."
Mom: "Well you can plug it in here so we all can listen to it."
Me: "But... then I'd have to listen to something else..."
Mom: "Nah, you wouldn't. Whatever you're listening to is fine with me."
Me: "...are you sure?"
Mom: "Of course! Anything would be better than this Christmas music."
Me: "Okay." *plays "Right In"*
...
Mom: "Uh... can you skip to the next song?"
Me: "Yeah, sure." *plays "Bangarang"*
...
Mom: *pulls auxiliary cable out of aux jack and puts radio back on* "Oops, did that fall out?"

My family never does Christmas on Christmas Day, since for some reason its harder to get everyone together then, so this year our Christmas was today. Among other things that will come in handy while traveling next spring, my mom gave me £60 cash. That’s something I certainly wasn’t expecting, but cool nonetheless!

So much crap in my room
It is so much easier moving my things into a completely empty dorm room, than moving back to my room at home which is already full of crap. I’m actually throwing a lot of things away and stuffing a lot of my old stuff into my closet because I have no room to put all the stuff I just brought home from college. In other news, I found a Pirates of the Caribbean movie stub from 2006. Movie...

Ultima Weapon and Omega Weapon were a couple of disappointments, honestly. I came into the battle totally unprepared and this thing looked like it could squash my party like bugs. That turned out not to be the case. Although they would have been pretty formidable if they didn’t give me a million turns to hit them in between them hitting me back. Maybe they were trying to make up for...

I didn’t beat FFX, but I did instead decide to go out and enjoy the fresh air and the newly fallen snow. Outdoor adventures by yourself can sometimes be way more fun than when you’re with other people, because you can go wherever you want and do whatever you want and not worry about other people slowing you down or holding you back. I went off the trail, underneath a barbed wire fence,...

Feels so nice to have down time
Last week (and pretty much the entire semester really) I never had a moment where there wasn’t something I had to be working on, whether it be homework or studying for a test/quiz or worrying about study abroad application materials or summer internship stuff or working on campus. Hence why, even though I brought a PS2 with me in September, I can count the number of times I’ve turned...

Well I just completed that program in under 24 hours, and I didn’t even talk to my professor. I surprise even myself sometimes.

Stirling recently got a good deal of snow...
All the more reason to look forward to getting over there :-) Here in Wisconsin, it is the middle of December yet it looks about as white as October. I mean, I almost forgot it was the last day of classes because there is absolutely no snow on the ground. Although I know technically it is still “fall” until the 21st.

Suddenly everything is unfair!
I have a program due tomorrow that was actually assigned Monday but I didn’t get a chance to start it until today due to having other homework/quizzes/tests earlier in the week to worry about (actually, even a week is an unusually short amount of time to complete a program… usually we get two weeks). Anyway, this program is in a brand new programming language that apparently my...

The American Paradox
In 1957, as economist John Kenneth Galbraith was describing the United States as The Affluent Society, Americans’ per-person income was about $9,000. Today, the United States is a doubly affluent society. With double the spending power, we now own twice as many cars per person, eat out twice as often, and are supported by a whole new world of technology. Since 1960 we have also seen the...

New Year's Resolution for 2012
Stop getting attached to people that you’re only going to see for a short time, especially girls. Which is pretty much going to be anybody that I meet in 2012.
